The time has come, the walrus said
To talk of many things;
Of ships, of shoes of sealing wax,
Commodities on wings.

And why the people have no food
And why they're in an angry mood.
Yes, Ben Bernanke they have none
And why can't anything be done?

In days of old the folks had nerve
There wasn't any Fed Reserve.
To get their food they did not shirk
They practiced little thing called work.

And this old fashioned work, though crude,
Produced an awful lot of food.
But then you came along, you say,
To show us all a better way.

The modern way to all get rich
Is printing money; that's the pitch
Then why oh Ben, do people brood?
How come there isn't any food?

I say, dear Ben, here is the gist.
Now fire each economist.
And when this course has been pursued,
The people will again have food..

Howard S. Katz
President Truman would call in his
economic advisors and ask them
questions.  What happens if I balance
the budget?  What happens if I raise
taxes?  The advisors would reply,
“Well, on the one hand…But then on
the other hand….”  Finally Truman got
exasperated and declared, “What this
country needs is a good one-handed
economist.”
